If any of you happen to own a Crown Victoria or Grand Marguis with the 4.6 between the years of 1995 and 2000 then maybe you have noticed a small ( or in some cases very large ) coolant leak coming from the cross over pipe on the front of the intake manifold. ( Usually on the passenger side )

Well my friends dont think you are the only one out there that is having this problem. This is a very common problem with these vehicles even so much that Ford has placed a campaign or Recall on them but there is a catch.

The biggest problem besides over-heating the engine from lack of engine coolant is the fact that coolant will leak onto the coil packs and can effect the firing of the spark plugs giving you a miss fire or two with a check engine light and a bad headache.

You have to call the dealership with your VIN number to find out if you qualify for the recall and of course there is a time frame for this qualification. ( The VIN number is located on the driver door, trunk lid , door frame  or  the driver side of the wind shield corner )

But if your like most people, then you will have to have it done yourself and for the DIY people out there, I will give you some insight on how it is done and what to look for.

For starters find a good quality replacement intake manifold. Dorman makes a good intake that costs about $ 230.oo , and it comes with everything ( Brackets ,seals and thermostat included )

To install the new unit is pretty straight forward if you have any kind of repair knowledge but if this is your first one the you should visit this site;

http://www.autoclinix.com/Manifold8.htm

There you will see a very detailed step by step guide with very good pics to help you through the process.

Well I hope this helps all you Ford guys out there and remember to use distilled water with your anti freeze mix.

Until next time this is ASE Master Jeff Williams saying thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to click on the little coffe cup at the bottom left of this page. Your Donations are greatly appreciated.  Jeff

Panning Gold

Gold ! Gold ! Gold !

Now I know for most of you that the topic of Gold might be off the subject of Automotive repair, but I thought that you might be interested in knowing how the Yellow metal is found especially now that it is hovering around      Wow $ 1200. oo dollars an ounce..

The first thing people think of is the lonely prospector with his mule and supplies trekking across the wilderness in search of that elusive mother load.

But the truth of the matter is that if you just know where to look and keep in mind that Gold is very heavy, then you are on your way to finding it.

So, without a long winded story on geology, here is the short end of it.

First and most important. To find Gold, you must go where it has already been found.

Second, remember that gold is very heavy and likes to  settle  in low places like cracks, crevices and bedrock.

And third is a very famous quote but holds true to this day.     ” If ya ain’t Bold then ya get no Gold “

What that means to say is in a nut shell is that if you work hard and dare to try new things then you will find that magic nugget

The next question is what type of equipment is needed to recover Gold. Well my friend there is a long list to answer that with but in short heres what you might want to bring with you on your next trip.

For starters, a gold pan and practice at home using it too.

Second, a classifying screen that fits on your Gold pan

And last a small shovel to dig with.

Now your ready to start finding the Mother Load. That is if you are around water. If not , then you will have to haul your own in and pan in a small tub.

Just watch the video below to get the hang of it.
