Ford Explorer Radiator Replacement
ByIf you have ever replaced a radiator on any kind of vehicle, then my friend, you know how much fun it can be. But to change out a radiator on a Ford Explorer, well lets just say that you might grow a few gray hairs trying to tackle this one.

The first thing I will tell you before we get into the video is make sure you buy a OEM replacement radiator or you might find yourself having to trim the fan shroud to make that cheaper one fit.
The second thing is to check the fan clutch to see if it needs replacement. A bad fan clutch will cause the engine to over heat real fast and can cause the plastic tanks on your radiator to crack early on.
The easiest way for you to check a fan clutch is to warm the engine up to operating temp and then shut the engine off and watch your fan spin. If it spins for more than 2 seconds then you might want to swap it out.
And last but certainly not least is the thermostat and water by pass-tube. Ford loves to put these rubber by-pass tubes from the block to the water pump housing and they always pop at the worst time. As far as the thermostat goes, if that 7 dollar peice of equipment fails then there goes your engine so why not change it out.
Now the short video you are about to watch was created to help give you a quick referrence on how the job is done but always consult with your repair manual for the details.
Ok. Now on to the show.

Hey Jeff,
Great video and website! This kind of info is very valuable to the DIY guys out here.
Do you have anything specific to 2006 Ford Explorers? A quick cruise around the internet reveals that these radiators are a chronic problem and many folks will be wanting to replace theirs. Including me!
Thanks for any help you can give me and thanks again for the great website and videos.

Hi, when doing a 2006 ford explore, is it the same steps as the video?

Hi Jennifer, The video is a quick reference guide for the DIY people. There are a few things I left out but for the most part its there. For more details please consult a Haynes or Chiltons manual from your local Auto Parts House. If you do not want to purchase the manual, then you g=can find them at your local Library. I hope this helps Jennifer. Jeff

Hi Gustavo, If done properly, no damage should occur. If you have any doubts about it you should have it replaced by an ASE certified mechanic. Jeff
